‘Captivated’
In my case it wasn’t a mighty Russian river and soaring blue hills beyond. It was only a small brook over the neighbour’s field. But it’s weeping willows gave me solitude and time to dream. Even in winter it had it’s beauty but in summer heat it encouraged an indolence that i had to be careful not to give in to too often.

Little Lion Man
Many, for diverse reasons, are ‘little lion men’. On many levels and for many reasons i am numbered among them.
-
Frontman Marcus Mumford has said about the song:“It’s a very personal story, so I won’t elaborate upon too much. Suffice to say, it was a situation in my life I wasn’t very happy with or proud of… and sometimes when you can’t describe a feeling with your own words, it’s almost easier to express in a song. And then, when you get asked about the songs, it’s quite difficult to explain. It’s a conundrum — you don’t want to seem self-indulgent explaining yourself; it’s always awkward. Which is weird again, because it’s never awkward actually singing them. I suppose the song should stand on its own and people draw their own interpretation from the words. But for me, personally, it’s the lyrics that I listen to again and again in a song. I place specific importance on them. I can’t write lyrics unless I really feel them and mean them, which can sometimes be quite frustrating — because if you’re not feeling much at the time, you’re stuck. I guess the sound of it grabs you a little bit by the balls — it’s quite an aggressive song, a bit more of a punch in the face. Or at least, for our stuff, anyway — a lot of our stuff isn’t quite as hard-hitting as that. It felt like the right song to be the single because it represented the harder, darker side of what we do, and at the same time, the more folksy and punchy side.”
Little Lion Man, lyricsWeep for yourself, my man
You’ll never be what is in your heart
Weep little lion man
You’re not as brave as you were at the start
Rate yourself and rake yourself
Take all the courage you have left
Wasted on fixing all the problems
That you made in your own head
But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn’t I, my dear?
Tremble for yourself, my man
You know that you have seen this all before
Tremble little lion man
You’ll never settle any of your scores
Your grace is wasted in your face
Your boldness stands alone among the wreck
Learn from your mother
Or else spend your days biting your own neck
But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn’t I, my dear?

I’m a part of you
“Sharpen a stick at both ends.”
Presently he (Jack) stood up, holding the dripping sow’s head in his hands.
“Where’s that stick?”
“Here.”
“Ram one end in the earth. Oh — it’s rock. Jam it in that crack. There.”
Jack held the head and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth. He stood back and the head hung there, a little blood dribbling down the stick.”
Instinctively the boys drew back too; and the forest was very still. They listened, and the loudest noise was the buzzing of the flies over the spilled guts.”Lord of the Flies, Chapter 8

Swimwear or Underwear?
Big Wave Surfing
Two hard ass game characters, Mōri Motonari & Chōsokabe Motochika re-imagined as beach boys by DeviantART’s, Onionmania33.
The bird float is particularly silly and a nice counterpoint to the other’s gung ho stance. Sweet as they are though, it’s their placement in the ‘Big Wave’ that elevates this above the flotsam and jetsam of fanart.

“woaah, a big wavee!! /excited”
“chotto Chosokabe-kun, you’re not gonna surf in a wave like that are you?!”
My favorite pair in Sengoku Basara and for Mori, my friend, (she) said, that she wants too see him using (a) duckhead tyre as a joke weapon replacing his Rintou / Ring Blade. LOL
Just reminding (everyone), the BG is not my work, it’s called “The Great Wave off Kanagawa/ 神奈川沖浪裏, Kanagawa Oki Nami Ura” by Japanese Traditional Artist named Katsushika HOKUSAI

Sprinting Forward 奔
i love this photo. Obviously, i like the naked boys but it’s also how it’s elements come together. The planes and boys give the speeding vehicle direction and consequently draw you up, into the distance. The colours, basically just a palette of vibrant red through pink and pale blue shades with black and white. (Yes, i’m ignoring the yellow bus, oncoming beyond the bridge, i see it as just emphasising the limited palette.) But what i really like and is not so obvious even at full resolution, is that it’s not boys but a boy, the photographer himself, Chi Peng.
Not forgetting, too, that it amuses me to see this as Chi Peng’s take on Alfred Hitchcock’s, ‘The Birds’.

Meet OSCAR NILSSON
A 2009 short film by HEDI SLIMANE for VMAN and featuring OSCAR NILSSON, 16 year old star of the Royal Danish Ballet Theater.

At 16 i was fit. i swam and played rugby, competitively, for my school. i think to look at we would have been peas in a pod. But i somehow doubt i had Oscar’s strength and stamina: Certainly not his grace and poise and let’s not mention dancing. i hope someone has the good sense to film him again, soon.

Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law.
Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law.

GAME BOY
i’ve liked this poster for a couple of years. He reminds me of a classmate. He use to play upside down like that and in those same stripy boxers too. He didn’t have so much hair on his chest and chin, then but i imagine he would have now. He made it appear as if that was all he ever wore at home. If we arrived together he was hardly across the threshold before his clothes started coming off and if i called he would open the door wide in just his boxers. He asked me once, no, he told me once to, “get comfortable too”. Stupidly, naively, i told him i was comfortable. He just gave me this breath taking smile and started his thumbs twiddling while talking all the nonsense that continually bubbled up in his brain. Ostensibly, i was there to complete team homework projects, i never disabused him of his apparent belief that ‘Superficial anatomy’ was one of my curriculum subjects. Whether he was coming on to me or was just comfortable in himself and my always positive, never negative, attitude to him (as it was to all my classmates), i never asked. He was never cruel to me like some were, not even, i believe, behind my back. He took the mick, yes, but it was always intelligent. Never, ever, a cheap shot at the ‘Jesus freak’ boy. In fact, when he heard that used against any of us, he would correct the speaker. He would point out that we were babies of ‘Jesus Freaks’ just as some of his audience were babies of ‘wife beaters’, ‘alcoholics’, ‘criminals’ and all the other ne’r do wells that made up rural society including the crust of the cow pat, ‘farmers’, ‘Estate Agents’ and ‘Bankers’. i loved him unashamedly in those moments.

Artist: Roxanna Vizcarra
- Roxanna Vizcarra lives in Brooklyn and spent most of her early life believing people who drew things for a living were desperately poor and unhappy, or at least very misinformed. During adolescence, however, she became much less sensible and reversed this opinion all together. She has BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design, which largely involved drawing as many awesome and manly things as possible.
- I currently live in Brooklyn, NY. When I’m not working as an in-house Illustrator for Rockstar Games NYC, I’m pursuing freelance clients and refining my tastes as a serious cartoon aficionado. One day I hope to travel to space.
- (Game Boy) is for a poster contest held by PostersForHumans.com. The theme was to parody a cliched poster genre, so I chose to parody vintage ‘babe’ pin-ups…changing it to the sort of thing I’d like to see tacked up on walls.
